In 2002 Greenlight’s principals pledged to donate half of all profits made on the Allied Capital short to the Ira Sohn Research Conference Foundation. When the investment didn’t pan out as quickly as we hoped, Greenlight donated $1 million to the hospital in 2005. As we said at that time, the children should not have to wait any longer. With the publication of the book Greenlight and Einhorn pledged to give the other half of any personal profit (including any profit from the book), to two worthy organizations: the Center for Public Integrity and the Project On Government Oversight, both in Washington , D.C. This book shows, if nothing else, that we need better investigative journalism and effective government watch dogs. At the 2009 Ira Sohn Conference, Greenlight and Einhorn fulfilled their pledge and donated an additional $6 million to the hospital and these charities, making a total donation of $7 million over the course of this fascinating story. If you need more information on any of these charitable organizations, please click below.

Ira Sohn Research Conference Foundation

The Ira Sohn Research Conference Foundation provides funding to local pediatric cancer treatment and maintenance organizations. The organizations served include the Tomorrows Children’s Fund at Hackensack University Medial Center, New York Presbyterian Hospital / Weill Cornell Medical Center, and ArtWorks.

Tomorrows Children's Fund

The Tomorrows Children’s Fund was founded by a group of dedicated parents to help their children and others like them with cancer and serious blood disorders. TCF provides a warm, healthy and loving environment for children in treatment; a full scope of services to relieve families’ emotional and financial stress; the very best possible medical care; and funding for research on these diseases.

The Project on Government Oversight

The Project On Government Oversight follows a rich tradition of assuring that the government continues to work for the people it represents. Our nation was founded on the very principle that representation and accountability are fundamental to maintaining a strong and functioning democracy. Today, these principles espoused by our founding fathers are under attack as our federal government is more vulnerable than ever to the influence of money in politics and powerful special interests.

The Center for Public Integrity

The Center for Public Integrity is a nonprofit organization dedicated to producing original, responsible investigative journalism on issues of public concern. The Center is non-partisan and non-advocacy. The Center is committed to transparent and comprehensive reporting both in the United States and around the world.
